At the End of the (Training) Day

Here are 31 question we feel might useful to ask yourself and others at the end of training day, conference or indeed, any sort of CPD event.

  1. Has this been the best use of your time?
  2. Have you spent any of the day fuming silently?
  3. Are you glad you attended (even if you were pushed)?
  4. Do you now know something useful that you didn’t know before?
  5. Can you now do something to make a difference that you couldn’t do before?
  6. Are you leaving with the same prejudices and preconceptions you came in with?
  7. Have you been made to reflect on what you do?
  8. Have you been made to reflect on why you do what you do?
  9. Have you been challenged and pushed?
  10. Do you feel you have been treated with respect in this process?
  11. Has whoever was leading the session proven to you they had something special to share?
  12. Could you have done a better job than they did?
  13. Throughout the event do you feel you have been working alongside other professionals who have also contributed?
  14. Have you contributed to the day in an active manner (and not just sat at the back with your arms folded)?
  15. Have you been made to feel that you are doing a good job?
  16. Do you now feel that you could do that job better?
  17. Are you leaving with specific ideas you can test out tomorrow?
  18. Will today’s event change what you think?
  19. Will today’s event change what you do?
  20. As a result of what you happens in your classroom, will your children and students know you’ve ‘been on a training day/course’?
  21. Would you recommend this experience to other professionals?
  22. Has the person leading the course been demonstrating and modelling good learning practices?
  23. Have you laughed (in the right places)?
  24. Have you cried (in the right places)?
  25. Have you felt stupid (in a good way)?
  26. Have you felt stupid (in a bad way)?
  27. Have you had the opportunity to ask questions?
  28. Have the questions you have asked been answered in a satisfactory way?
  29. Have you had the opportunity to talk (on task) to other colleagues?
  30. Have you been involved in any/much/some/lots of off-task talking?
  31. Have you had sufficient opportunities to network, meet new people, renew old acquaintances, have interesting conversations, go ‘off piste’, drink tea and coffee, eat decent food, go to the loo in good time and generally enjoy a great experience all round?
